A day at the dentist. . . . . . Capitol Riders member, Ritz Duchesne, organizes a dental clinic with Dr. Richard Vetter of Performance Equine twice a year. This year it was hosted at Ritz' home off Spurgeon Creek Road. Equine dentistry is an important step in caring for your riding partner. Shown is Nichi, owned by Capitol Riders member Sandra White. Nichi is 15 years old and until she came to live at the Double Diamond Ranch, it is believed that she had never had her teeth done.
Dr. Vetter worked on Nichi's dental needs while Kathy Vetter explained the process and what her husband would be looking for and working on. Along with the dental exam and any work needing done, Nichi received a general
overall health evaluation as well. Going to the equine dentist proved to be a very thorough exam.
The horses are sedated for the dental work and Kathy closely monitors the horses while Dr. Vetter works on their teeth. The Vetters take a very calm approach toward their patients and are quite informative on all that is happening for the owners. Once the procedure is over, vaccinations are
discussed and before everyone realizes, the shots are over, the horse steps out of the stanchion and spends a few minutes getting its sea-legs and Dr. Vetter gives the OKAY to leave for home.
